“Gypsy ball is full of Roma, Gypsy music is heard…” 🙂
On April 2, 2017, the 1st Bumbi Memorial Ball was organised by the Czinka Panna Roma Cultural Association, based on the idea and initiative of Németh Barni, as a tribute to István Bertók (Bumbi), who was the last local Gypsy musician. The international ball was honoured by the presence of Klara Bertók, Bumbi’s daughter, who continued her father’s legacy and is still playing as an outstanding bar pianist. The ball’s guest of honour was Nándor Beke Farkas, head of the 100-member Gypsy Orchestra. The performers recalled the memory of Bumbi (with the dance of the “bertóké verbunk”, which is tied to the name of Bumbi) and Lajos Sárközi and his Orchestra and the Gipsy Night Trio recreated the atmosphere of the old Gypsy balls. The star of the ball was Attila Kökény, who entertained the audience with his brilliant performance. We are thankful for everyone who has visited our ball, with a special thanks to our guests from neighbouring countries!
